I wanted for a while to do an image with long exposure, but including a live person. Combining still and moving elements but also breaking the usual blur of live people. So, this is it. Additionally, I used the effect of "blue evening light" (shifted white balance) with warm lantern light (flash with orange gel). To make the colour palette complete, I added the blue again - inside of orange-amber tones encircling the model, as a water. A food colorant did the trick making the water really blue. The setting contraption for blue water is a naturally rusted vessel (another orange element) used in the Caribbean for sugar cane processing, this particular one set as a mini bathtub. Thank you for viewing and reading! ===== This is new edit of this image, I significantly darkened the light and focused it on model's upper body. I think it improves the composition. I submitted this photo twice, and had couple of comments in curation. I decided not to agree with one comment, while another one (pasted just below here) confirmed my own thoughts, and I decided to re-edit this image. So, I tightened the light, focusing more on model and water, and I reduced size of model's right foot to make it more natural looking. Thank you for commenting and helping me improve my work. I hope you like it now more than before! Here is the comment from previous curation, pointing to the fixed already problem: "this photo is original, fitting the model , the light is superb and the choice of framing. Personally the only thing that bothers me is the foot on the right side of the model that is too large . It is not proportionate . Congratulations!" And this is my previous reply to comment that verticals on left side are not straight. To answer the comment about correcting perspective distortion - I am always very aware of perspective problems, and fix that promptly (see my other photos). However, with this image I thought I leave it as it is. It was so small space for shoot, I had no choice but to distort it with wide angle lens and camera position. if I corrected it on photoshop using perspective correction, I would lose parts of image completely. I thought about fixing it and I could do other things to correct it (select/copy/new layer/adjust/rotate, for example), as I did in the past ,and I would make all verticals straight - but I thought - it is just fine here. Why? While slight distortion is often easy to correct and can be irritating - a distortion in creative image like this one actually can ADD flavor to the image, adds dynamics and leads our eye to the main spot - exactly what the comment suggests. I strongly feel that in this particular case - straightened vertical lines on the left (not just the beam, but also lamp and other things) - would actually make the image WEAKER, and it would LOSE its power. So, it was a creative decision to leave it. I corrected many other things - but left this one put. Of course we all see things differently, but since this image is mine - I had to do it the way I believe it is good. I hope some of you you agree. Cheers!
