The artist Man Ray said "To create is divine, to reproduce is...human".
The context in which his his statement was made can be debated, but my interpretation is that within each individual is the desire to please others with their work. Whatever their endeavors may be, and no matter how mundane they may seem to others, the pride of accomplishment can bee seen shining in their eyes the moment they realize that the task at hand has come to conclusion as expected. And, particularly when the results are better than those anticipated, someone must be shown.
Is this the sense of divinity that Man Ray eludes to? I believe it to be. While one man's work is sometimes appreciated only in a very small circle, another man's work may just as well be seen, heard, tasted or touched the world over. Such are our stations in life. Both are equally pleased that their work is recognized and appreciated. They both have a light that shines in their eyes. We all are human, but we all are also artist.
I engage in photography within a very small circle of peers and have, on occasion, managed to please most within it at one time or another. But, were I in position to, I would happily exchange all of the attention gained by any of this worlds most talented photographers to have an individual say to me while viewing one of my images that..."I've dreamt of this."
Should that ever happen, not only will my eyes be shining, but my heart will be also.
