    Für das Allroundtalent Ernst Kahl stellt die komische Kunst ein weites Terrain für Experimente und Erfindungen dar, mit denen er als Chronist einer überlebten Bürgerlichkeit und deren Abgründe an Spießigkeit auftritt. Wo eben noch Erhabenheit und Pathos walten, macht sich jetzt schnell ein glattes Parkett voller Kuriositäten und Schlüpfrigkeiten bemerkbar. Eine besondere Rolle spielen hierbei die Tiere, führen sie doch an des Menschen Stelle vor, was üblicherweise im Verborgenen geschieht. Ernst Kahl wurde 1949 in Schleswig-Holstein geboren und lebt heute in Hamburg. Seit Beginn der achtziger Jahre ist eine Reihe von Büchern von ihm erschienen; zahlreiche Cartoons und Bildgeschichten in PARDON, KONKRET, STERN, DER FEINSCHMECKER und TITANIC machten ihn zum gefeierten Illustrator. Er erhielt 1992 eine Auszeichnung vom Art Director's Club in Deutschland. Der Allround-Künstler Kahl fand ein weiteres Betätigungsfeld im deutschen Film: Als Autor des Drehbuchs von Detlev Bucks »Wir können auch anders« erhielt er den Bundesfilmpreis. Neben Auftritten in Kurzfilmen wie »Der Lober« mit Detlev Buck und »Archie« ist er auch als Musiker und Chansonnier auf der CD »Im Kühlschrank brennt noch Licht« (1996) zu bewundern. Kahls Arbeiten wurden 1994 während einer großen Einzelausstellung im Wilhelm-Busch- Museum in Hannover und in der Caricatura in Kassel ab 1995 ausgiebig gewürdigt.
