Artists portrait of Hans-Werner Sahm

Hans-Werner Sahm

Hans-Werner Sahm was a German artist known for his works in the field of Fantastic Realism. He was born on December 1, 1930 in Wiesbaden and died on June 8, 2007 in Mainz.

Sahm studied at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach and later at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. He quickly developed his own style, which was strongly influenced by the art of Fantastic Realism. His artwork is characterized by a unique combination of realism and fantasy.

Sahm created many canvas paintings, which were often reproduced as art prints. His works are characterized by surreal landscapes, dreamy scenes and whimsical figures. His artwork is often detailed and finely crafted, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship.

Sahm was a highly respected artist and his works were exhibited in many prestigious galleries and museums around the world. He was also a lecturer and taught art at various colleges in Germany.

Sahm influenced many other artists in the field of Fantastic Realism and is considered one of the most important representatives of this art movement. His art prints and canvas paintings are highly sought after today and are appreciated by art lovers all over the world.

    Hans-Werner Sahm writes about himself:

"Saturated with the whole variety of sensory perceptions resulting from the intense images, light impressions, smells and sounds of the then still halfway intact Allgäu, I came to Munich as a 10-year-old in the early 1950s. The collision with the big city was intense. At school, I was really only interested in art classes. Three years before graduation, I left school. For me, leaving school was a first big step towards freedom. My surrealistic paintings of that time were bad, but painted with great concern. Nevertheless, I was put into an apprenticeship in the field of reproduction technology. I got into a professional rut that slowly threatened to suffocate me. After nine long years of office work, I finally quit. I felt less constricted, developed my work rhythm, and in 1981 painted the picture Finally Free!"
