The New York based autodidact Horse Hamann was born in Mannheim, Germany in 1958. In addition to panoramic photography, which he has been practising for ten years, he is attracted by the periphery of the medium of photography, an area he says encourages him to find new forms of expression. Hamann has been photographing New York for more than 20 years. He is much in demand and examples of his work have appeared in diverse international publications. In 1997, he received two awards for his photographic volume entitled "New York Vertical". Kodak honoured him with the Photo Design Gold-Award and he was also a recipient of the Buchkunst Foundation prize. The impressive work literally turned panoramic photography on its head. Described by critics as "one of the most beautiful books" of its genre, it contains the first truly vertical photographs of the only really vertical city in the world. The classic black and white angles are of breathtaking perspective and beauty. "New York Vertical" was honoured by Mayor Rudolph Giuliani with the city's silver coat of arms.
The art works of the artist are dominated by the colors white and gray.
