if forced at gunpoint to describe anything other than the basic facts about this or most of the photographs I take, I'd hope for a deus ex machina. I have no words for this process that starts in the unknown and ends with images such as this one, and I'm loathe to try too hard to find them; defining the indefinable has the tendency to strip it of any transcendent qualities it may possess...which is the exact opposite of what I hope to accomplish. basic photo facts: I shoot most of my subjects...including this one...on a black table with a dark sheet hung as background. Light is provided by a 60-watt bulb in an adjustable goose-neck lamp that clamps to the table, and I use a wrist strap to stabilize the camera. My experience with various photographic techniques (HDR, focus-stacking) is extremely limited; I use auto-focus with most shots, including this one, and I almost always use the shutter priority setting because the light I use is too low for any aperture adjustments. The majority of post-processing work...all in GIMP...I did for this photo was erasing the string that held the glasses in place and making sure the background was consistently dark.
