I was born and raised in Tempe, Arizona, in the US. Since 2001 my wife, Shannon, and I (and now our 4 great kids) have moved first to Northeast Lincolnshire, England for two years, then back to the States, and now to Papua New Guinea.

We have lived and worked in a remote tribal location, among the Mibu people, high up in the cloud forests of Papua New Guinea since early 2004. Our primary work is bible translation, helping interested people learn to follow Jesus, and literacy development in this previously unwritten language. We also do a bit of small level, sustainable community development, and even some medical work in extreme situations.

I feel since living here, I've come to take for granted many of the really interesting opportunities for photography. Our close relationship with the people, knowledge of their language (Ma) and their culture and worldview puts me in a great place to be able to capture their lives in photographs. My camera gives me a fresh new window through which to look at and try to convey the uniqueness of Mibu.

While I enjoy the challenge of many photographic disciplines, much of what drives me to improve my skills is the desire to communicate through my photographs the vast difference between life and culture here and the rest of the western world. As such most of what I do is typically documentary, portraiture and the occasional landscape. I want to capture the Mibus' earthy, rough and difficult lives, but in a way that shows the dignity of transforming hope.

I'm inspired greatly looking at many of your photographs! I joined 1x in hopes of being able to glean as much as I can from the many photographers out there who are clearly much better than I am. I look forward to being able to interact with other like-minded photographers! Please, if you have any constructive criticism on any of my photographs, I really would appreciate hearing from you!
