Hello, I first started shooting when I was in the 7th grade with an old Yashica range finder camera – I loved it. I soon built a make shift darkroom in my bedroom and enjoyed the artistic expression of a B&W photography. My heart was in Engineering and although I paid my way thru college working in a photo store selling top end camera to pros, I soon left photography behind. Now, some 30 years into my engineering career, I have decided to take up the art once more. I have spent many years working with and designing electro-optical devices. I can tell you how technically each item in your DLSR works, but I can't necessarily tell you how to use it artistically. After browsing the photos on this site, I realize how outclassed I am by the most of you. I look forward in hearing your critiques of my posts, and I will read, study and learn from each comment. My goal here is simple to improve my photography from an artist eye. I don't have fancy equipment. Typically I shoot with a EOS 7D; its 1.6x crop sensor limits my ability to crop and maintain image quality. Since low light noise is also a factor, I use DXO Pro as my RAW processor. I believe DXO has the best noise reduction algorithms on the market. I generally do not use Adobe products, but occasionally, if I've made a bad mistake, I will use Adobe Elements. The photos I post are pretty much as shot. Due to my camera and software constraints, I try to shooting using the old school mentality; perform the cropping/perspective with the lens and control the exposure with the camera. DXO provides excellent noise reduction and gives me the ability to control the tonal range of the photograph. I use DXO in a similar fashion as I used different papers, films and chemicals in my old darkroom and film cameras. Thanks for looking, Thomas
